Barnidipine is a calcium channel blocker that belongs to the dihydropyridine class and is used for the treatment of hypertension. It has been shown to be potent inducers of CYP3A4 and may interact with other drugs metabolized by this enzyme. Barnidipine has been shown to have a blood pressure-lowering effect and may be used as an adjunct therapy in patients with chronic bowel disease. The drug is not active against many types of bacteria, including tuberculosis, but it can inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori, which causes gastritis and peptic ulcers. Barnidipine also inhibits the replication of HIV-1 in human lymphocytes.
