Benzyltriethylammonium chloride is a glycol ester that has been shown to have good chemical stability. This compound has also been shown to be a catalyst for the synthesis of hydrochloric acid from hydrogen gas and salt. The synthesis method involves the reaction of benzyltriethylammonium chloride with sodium carbonate and hydrochloric acid, which leads to the formation of sodium chloride, water, and hydrogen gas. Benzyltriethylammonium chloride is used as a hydrogen bond donor in zirconium oxide-based catalysts for the synthesis of polyethylene terephthalate. It has also been shown to have biological properties such as anti-inflammatory activities against acetic acid-induced inflammation in rats.
