Boc-L-Arg-OH.HCl is an antimicrobial agent that is a synthetic, biodegradable polymer. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on skin cancer cells and to inhibit the growth of c. glabrata, a fungus that causes nail infections. Boc-L-Arg-OH.HCl binds to fibrinogen and inhibits the growth of c. glabrata by preventing protonation and subsequent activation of the fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR). This leads to apoptotic cell death in cancer cells and inhibition of colorectal carcinoma proliferation in vitro.
