4-Benzyl-4-hydroxypiperidine is a natural product with a conjugate amide, alkylation and skeleton. It has been synthesized by the reaction of 4-benzylpiperidine and 4-hydroxypiperidine. The sesquiterpene lactone of this molecule is an analog to lobinine, which is found in the venom of the Gaboon viper. The affinity for neurokinin-1 receptors makes this molecule a potential analog for the treatment of pain. This compound also has hydrogenated properties, making it useful in the study of mitochondrial membrane proteins.
