Description

N-alpha-Boc-N-delta-(2-chloro-Z)-L-ornithine is an organic compound that belongs to the class of nitrogen containing heterocycles. It has been shown to have antihypertensive activity and is a quaternary ammonium salt. This drug functions as an anion, which blocks the action of angiotensin II on its receptor, thereby preventing the activation of blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. N-alpha-Boc-N-delta-(2-chloro-Z)-L-ornithine also has radical scavenging activity, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen peroxide radicals in solution. It also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and interfering with the process of amino acid incorporation into protein during translation.
