Boc-L-isoleucine 4-nitrophenyl ester is a hydrolase inhibitor that is used in the study of enzyme kinetics. The inhibition of enzymes by Boc-L-isoleucine 4-nitrophenyl ester can be studied by observing the decrease in substrate uptake. This type of enzyme inhibition is reversible, and Boc-L-isoleucine 4-nitrophenyl ester will not inhibit dipeptidases or aminopeptidases. The drug has been shown to inhibit intracellular protein degradation, which may be due to its ability to bind to peptone and peptidase. Boc-L-isoleucine 4-nitrophenyl ester also inhibits amide hydrolase, leading to an increase in intracellular protein levels.
