- 3-Bromo-4-Methoxy-Pyridine
3-Bromo-4-methoxy-pyridine is an orthosilicate that is used as a reagent to synthesize bipyridines. It has low yield and is not commercially available. The optimal reaction conditions are bipyridine (1 eq.), hydroxylated magnesium (1 eq.), and dimethyl ether (2 eq.). 3-Bromo-4-methoxy-pyridine can be obtained from bromoarenes, which are often prepared by the reaction of an aryl chloride with magnesium in the presence of dimethyl ether. 3-Bromo-4-methoxy-pyridine is also used for silylation reactions of heteroaromatic compounds. Siloxanes are often prepared by the reaction of silicon tetrachloride with hexamethyldisiloxane.
