3-Bromo-6-Hydroxy-5-nitroacetophenone is a chemical that is used in the industrial production of bromophenols. It has been shown to be toxic to humans, with symptoms including dizziness, headache, and nausea. 3-Bromo-6-Hydroxy-5-nitroacetophenone can cause skin irritation and may have carcinogenic properties. Inhalation of this substance can result in pulmonary edema and death. 3-Bromo-6-Hydoxy-5 nitroacetophenone may also react with other chemicals such as chloroform or tetrachloroethylene to produce phosgene gas, which is extremely toxic. The human body metabolizes this compound by acetylation followed by hydrolysis; it is excreted via the kidneys. This chemical reacts with alkalis to form bromoacetic acid, which has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal studies
