Description :
3-Bromo-5-chloropyridine is an oxime that is used as a solvent. It can be prepared by the reaction of hydroxylamine and pyridine, or by the reaction of chloropyridine with ethyl ether and hydroxylamine. 3-Bromo-5-chloropyridine reacts with silver oxide to produce a complex with diethyl ether, which can be isolated as the triethylamine salt. 3-Bromo-5-chloropyridine has also been used in the preparation of other compounds such as alpha,alpha'-dibromohydantoin.
