7-Bromo-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is a tetracyclic compound that is formed by decarboxylation of 7-bromoindole. It has been shown to have constant and unambiguous properties, and crystallizes as a racemic mixture of two enantiomers. It also has the ability to form oxindoles in the presence of tert-butyl alcohol. 7-Bromo-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester can be synthesized using the following methods:
