Description

2-Bromo-1-(Bromomethyl)-4-chlorobenzene is an isoindolinone that is used in synthesizing other organic compounds. It can be prepared by the reaction of butyllithium with 2,2'-dibromo-1-(bromomethyl)benzene. The synthetic procedure starts with the preparation of 2,2'-dibromo-1-(bromomethyl)benzene. This compound can be prepared by reacting bromine with benzene in the presence of copper and a catalyst such as platinum oxide or nickel carbonyl. The yield of this reaction is about 75%.
2-Bromo-1-(Bromomethyl)-4-chlorobenzene can also be prepared by reacting butyllithium with 2,2'-dibromo-4'-chlorobenzophenone followed by hydrolysis. The yields for this method are about
