Description :
6-Bromo-phthalazine is a synthetic oxidant that is used in the production of acetonitrile. It is prepared by reacting an anionic transfer reagent with ammonium nitrate. The reaction yield can be increased by using an epoxidation catalyst, such as ruthenium, and by using a transfer catalyst, such as titanium tetrachloride. 6-Bromo-phthalazine may also be synthesized by reacting acetylene with ammonia in the presence of a nitrate salt.
