Description

It also has the ability to inhibit enzymes such as hydrochloric acid, which catalyzes reactions involving hydrogen ions. 2-Butanethiol has been shown to be effective in preventing the formation of carcinogens by reacting with reactive molecules such as nitrates and amines. This chemical can also act as an antioxidant, reducing the amount of hydroxyl ions produced during oxidation. The reaction mechanism for this chemical is thought to involve tiglic acid, which reacts with 2-butanethiol to form a thioester intermediate that reacts with water to produce H2O2 via a peroxy acid mechanism.
