3-Benzyloxybenzoic acid is a clear liquid with a slight odor. It is used as a wastewater treatment agent and acts by inhibiting the growth of bacteria in the aerobic environment. 3-Benzyloxybenzoic acid has been shown to be effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is also used as an active ingredient in radiotracers, which are used for imaging purposes. 3-Benzyloxybenzoic acid has been detected in many natural products such as angiotensin, lysine, and tryptophan. These compounds are found in all living organisms and include 3-hydroxybenzoic acid, which is an isomer of 3-benzyloxybenzoic acid.
