3-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2H-chromen-2-one is an optical sensor that changes its fluorescence intensity in the presence of nitric oxide. It has a coumarin scaffold that is sensitive to nitric oxide, and can be used as a probe for nitric oxide levels. 3-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2H-chromen-2-one has been shown to have a synergistic effect with insulin in lowering blood glucose levels in vivo. This optical sensor has also been used as an electrode material for the detection of ions in water. The optimum concentration of this compound has been determined by using a nadph-cytochrome P450 system and it was found to be 10 μM. It is water soluble and permeable through cell membranes.
