1-(1,1'-biphenyl-4-yl)-2-chloroethanone (BPC) is a tetradentate ligand that inhibits bacterial growth. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of S. aureus and subtilis by binding to their amine groups. BPC also inhibits the production of penicillinase in strains of S. epidermidis and Ciprofloxacin resistant strains of Acinetobacter baumannii. The chemical reactions between BPC and acetonitrile have been studied, as well as its reaction with fluconazole, which led to the discovery that it was able to react with this drug and form an adduct.
