Borane-5-ethyl-2-methylpyridine complex is a new anticancer drug that has been shown to inhibit the activity of p53, a tumor suppressor protein. Borane-5-ethyl-2-methylpyridine complex also has anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo, including in fibroblast cells and carcinoma cells. This compound has been synthesized with magnetic nanoparticles and conjugated with peptides for use as an imaging agent for cancer diagnosis. The synthesis of Borane-5-ethyl-2-methylpyridine complex is based on the reaction of borane (BH3) with methyl 2-(phenylsulfonyl)acetate and ethyl pyridinium chloride.
