• Description: 1,2-Butanedithiol is a monosubstituted molecule that has a linear response to the presence of gold nanoparticles. 1,2-Butanedithiol is able to stabilize gold nanoparticles by hydrogen bonding and can also be used to synthesize gold nanoparticles. The ligands on the pyridine ring in 1,2-butanedithiol are capable of binding with metal ions such as copper or silver. This stabilizes the metal particle and prevents aggregation. The fatty acid groups on 1,2-butanedithiol are used for modeling complexes that contain one or two ligands.
