It has been used in the production of polyimides. 2,2'-Bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine is a component of a reaction solution containing an inorganic acid, such as hydrochloric acid or tetracarboxylic acid. Polyimides are used as laminates for their thermal expansion properties. They are also used to make radiation-resistant coatings and high-temperature insulation materials.
