Description

2-Bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)aniline is a dehydrating agent that can be used to introduce amides. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects in Sprague-Dawley rats, with LD50 values of 0.5 and 1.0 g/kg when administered intraperitoneally and intravenously. The compound is also known to cause thionyl chloride birefringence in polymers, which is important for radiation devices that use polymers as a light source. 2-Bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)aniline's dehydration properties make it useful for introducing amides into organic compounds, such as butanoic acid, which are difficult to react with other reagents. The compound also has fluorine and chlorine functional groups, which are present in many optical devices such as lenses and mirrors.
