2-Bromo-5-fluoroaniline is a chemical compound that can be synthesized in high yield. This reaction utilizes n-hexane, which is a solvent that is low in toxicity and has a high boiling point. The nitro groups are formed by the addition of hydrogenation to the 2-bromo group, followed by the addition of nitric acid. The reaction proceeds through two steps: first, 2-bromo-5-fluoroaniline reacts with hexane to form 2,6-dibromohexane; second, 2,6-dibromohexane reacts with nitric acid to form 2,5-difluoroaniline and 5HNO3. This reaction yields a regiospecific product because the bromine atom is on the same side of the molecule as the fluorine atom.
