Description :
2-(4-tert-Butylphenyl)ethanol is a phenylethyl compound that is used as an alkylating agent in organic synthesis. This compound has been shown to be a good electrophile and may react with nucleophiles such as protonated amines, hydroxides, alcohols, and thiols. 2-(4-tert-Butylphenyl)ethanol can also react with chloroformates to form esters and ethers. The magnesium salt of this compound is used for the activation of carboxylic acids and hydroxylamine derivatives for use in analytical methods. 2-(4-tert-Butylphenyl)ethanol also reacts with trifluoride ion to form a chloroformate ester or an alcohol.
