Betulinic acid methyl ester is a natural compound derived from the bark of the birch tree. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo. Betulinic acid methyl ester has also been shown to have a hypoglycemic effect in mice. The structural analysis of betulinic acid methyl ester reveals that it contains a carboxylic acid group, two hydroxyl groups, and a hydrogen bond between the two hydroxyl groups, which are all important for its biological properties. Betulinic acid methyl ester's chemical diversity is due to its glycosidic bond, which is formed by the loss of water from one molecule of glucose or other sugars.
