It has been shown to inhibit anhydrase in the presence of organic solvents, such as methanol. 4-tert-Butylbenzoic acid hydrazide has also been shown to have anticancer activity and can be used as a chemotherapeutic agent. This drug inhibits DNA synthesis by forming covalent bonds with the nucleotide bases through displacement of the enzyme histidine kinase and inhibition of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase II. 4-tert-Butylbenzoic acid hydrazide is also capable of inhibiting xanthine oxidase and aconitase in vitro, which are enzymes involved in cellular respiration. 4-tert-Butylbenzoic acid hydrazide has been found to be more potent than phenacetin and acetaminophen, drugs that are commonly used
