Description

1-Bromo-2-butanone is a chemical compound that is commonly used as a solvent, in the production of dyes, and as an intermediate in the manufacture of pesticides. It can be found in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. 1-Bromo-2-butanone has been shown to cause cell dysfunction by interfering with proton transport across membranes. Its effects are mainly observed when the cells are exposed to light or ionising radiation. This chemical also has a number of reactive functional groups, including carbonyl groups, which can react with biological molecules such as proteins and DNA.
