Description :
2-Bromo-1-phenyl-1-pentanone is a chemical with an aromatic hydrocarbon group and a carbonyl group, which are known to be reactive. 2-Bromo-1-phenyl-1-pentanone is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of a number of compounds. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against many bacteria and fungi. The reaction between 2-bromo-1-phenyl-1-pentanone and hydrochloric acid gives chlorobenzene, which is also used in the manufacture of other chemicals. This process is called Friedel Crafts reaction. 2-Bromo phenyl 1 pentanone can also react with chloride to form bromochloropentane, which can be used as an insecticide or fumigant for stored grains.
