3-Bromo-1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-Propanol is an epoxide that can be used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. It has been shown to function as a reaction medium for the formation of quaternary ammonium salts and fluorescence. 3-Bromo-1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-Propanol also reacts with activated methylene compounds to form an epoxide. The mechanism of this reaction is not fully understood but it is thought that it proceeds through a concerted process. 3-Bromo-1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-Propanol can also be used to measure profiles or spontaneous reactions in translated spectra and convolution techniques. This chemical has been shown to interact with DNA in cells.
