Galectin-1 has been shown to play a role in the development of human disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. 3-BroMo-5-(trifluoroMethyl)pyridine-2-thiol has also been shown to inhibit ligands for the human galectin family including galectin 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
