1-(Thiophen-2-yl)propan-2-amine is a fatty acid and amide that is used as a pharmaceutical drug. It inhibits the activity of the enzyme fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), which breaks down anandamide, leading to increased levels of this endocannabinoid in the body. 1-(Thiophen-2-yl)propan-2-amine has been shown to be effective for the treatment of seizures associated with epilepsy when taken in combination with carbamazepine, and can also increase GABA concentrations in the brain. This compound is not active against bacteria, but is a potent inhibitor of gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
