Carboxy-PTIO potassium salt is a tannin molecule that has been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. It also inhibits enzymes such as catechol oxidase and nitric oxide synthase. Carboxy-PTIO potassium salt has been shown to induce hyperpolarization of the cell membrane, which may be due to its ability to activate cation channels in endothelial cells. The use of carboxy-PTIO potassium salt in plants has been shown to increase root formation and photosynthetic pigments. This compound can bind to DNA and inhibit the synthesis of proteins vital for cell division, leading to cell death. Carboxy-PTIO potassium salt is also active against endophytic fungus, Sprague-Dawley rats, and taxol.
