2-Chloro-3-cyanopyridine is an organic compound that contains a chlorine atom, a heterocycle, and three nitrogen atoms. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in vitro. It also inhibits the growth of k562 cells by chlorinating their DNA, thereby preventing the synthesis of proteins needed for cell division. 2-Chloro-3-cyanopyridine induces apoptotic cell death in these cells through activation of the ryanodine receptor. It is believed that this drug may be an effective treatment for insulin resistance due to its ability to bind with the insulin receptor and increase glucose uptake into muscle cells.
