Cyclohexanemethanol (CHM) is a type of chemical compound that has two hydroxyl groups. It is a colorless, clear liquid with an aromatic odor. CHM can be found in fatty acids and hydrogenated fats. Cyclohexane ring is the only one that contains a hydroxyl group. The other rings do not contain this functional group. CHM inhibits the activity of enzymes such as alcohol dehydrogenase, lipoxygenase, and phospholipase A2 by forming hydrogen bonds with the enzyme’s active site. This inhibitory effect reduces the production of prostaglandin, leukotrienes, and thromboxanes which are all inflammatory mediators or hormones.
