3-Cyclopentene-1-carboxylic acid is a carbocyclic nucleoside that is used as a linker in the synthesis of other nucleosides. It has been shown to be an effective reducing agent for plasma samples, with a high level of conversion and an elimination time of about 10 minutes. 3-Cyclopentene-1-carboxylic acid can be synthesized from cyclopentene carboxylic acid in two steps using homogeneous catalysts.
