4-Chlorothienol[2,3-d]pyrimidine is a potent antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis. It has been shown to inhibit the tyrosine kinase activity of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) in rat liver microsomes. In addition, 4-chlorothienol[2,3-d]pyrimidine has been identified as an inhibitor of EGFR and EGF in glioblastoma cells and carcinoma cell lines. This drug also inhibits the proliferation of human lung cancer cells by blocking the production of proteins essential for cell division. 4-Chlorothienol[2,3-d]pyrimidine is a potential therapeutic agent for cancer treatment.
