5-Chloro-4-fluoro-2-nitroaniline is an antimicrobial agent that has been used in the chlorinating of quinolinecarboxylic acid. It is also a reaction product of 5-chloro-4-fluoro-2-nitrobenzoic acid and sulfuric acid. The hydrolysis reaction produces 2,6 dichloroquinoline, which is then oxidized to 2,6 dichloroquinoline carboxylic acid by chlorine. Quinolinecarboxylic acid is an antimicrobial agent that has been used primarily as a preservative in adhesives and rubber products.
