1-Chloro-2-fluorobenzene (1C2FB) is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of aromatic compounds. It is a byproduct of the Friedel-Crafts reaction, which involves the introduction of chlorine into an unsaturated organic compound. 1C2FB is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and as a solvent for oil paints. 1C2FB has been shown to inhibit epidermal growth factor (EGF) production in vitro, and this may be due to its ability to bind to EGF receptors on cells. This molecule also inhibits protein synthesis and causes cell death by binding to DNA. The structural analysis of 1C2FB has provided evidence for hydrogen bonding between two fluorine atoms and one chlorine atom that may be responsible for its biological activity.
