Calcium;trifluoromethanesulfonate is a chemical compound that has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity in humans. It binds to the calcium ion and increases the activity of phospholipase C, which leads to increased levels of fatty acid and increased insulin sensitivity. Calcium;trifluoromethanesulfonate has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other bacteria by binding to the cell membrane. The mechanism is not fully understood, but it is thought that this may be due to its reactive nature. Calcium;trifluoromethanesulfonate can also be used as a fluorescent probe for organic compounds with diamine tetraacetic acid substitution groups.
