It has been shown to react with malonic acid (MAA) and fluoresce at an excitation wavelength of ~480 nm and emission wavelength of ~520 nm. The linear calibration curve for this assay was generated using human serum, which is a good model system for detecting infectious diseases. Chlorophenol red was also shown to bind to the receptor activity on mammalian cells and can be used as a marker for autoimmune diseases.
