2-(4-Chloro-3-methylphenoxy)acetohydrazide is a chemical compound that is used in research to study the effect of aldehydes on bacterial growth. The compound has antibacterial and anthelmintic activity, and has been shown to be effective against Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae, as well as other bacteria. 2-(4-Chloro-3-methylphenoxy)acetohydrazide inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins essential for cell division. It also exhibits antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, as well as gram positive bacteria such as Streptococcus epidermidis.
