3-Chloroisoxazole-5-carboxylic acid is a fat metabolism agent that is used to treat type 2 diabetes. It has been shown to increase the levels of adipose tissue in rats, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of glucose by liver cells. 3-Chloroisoxazole-5-carboxylic acid also inhibits the production of cholesterol and triglycerides in the liver and increases blood glucose levels. Its antiobesity effects are due to its ability to inhibit the activity of alloxan, an agent that produces reactive oxygen species that lead to lipid peroxidation. 3-Chloroisoxazole-5-carboxylic acid has been shown to have a protective effect against liver injury caused by pyridine, alkali metals, hydrochloric acid, or chloride. This drug also prevents the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and reduces their accumulation in tissues.
