2-Chloro-N,N-dicyclohexylacetamide is a conformationally restricted analog of acetamide that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. 2-Chloro-N,N-dicyclohexylacetamide inhibits the bacterial protein synthesis machinery by binding to the ribosome and inhibiting protein biosynthesis. It also inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium. The molecular structure of 2-chloro-N,N-dicyclohexylacetamide does not allow for conformational changes in its chemical bonds, which may be responsible for its lack of toxicity. 2CDA has been found to have no effect on human skin cells in vitro and has been tested as a cosmetic agent.
