2-Chloro-N-2-naphthylacetamide (CA) is a monomer that is used in the production of polymers and copolymers. It can be synthesized from styrene, acetonitrile, benzene and an initiator such as potassium hydroxide. CA has a high stability to heat, which makes it suitable for use in thermogravimetric analysis. The polymerization of CA with methyl methacrylate (MMA) or 1-naphthylamine yields polymers that are resistant to degradation by light and moisture. FTIR spectroscopy shows that CA copolymerizes with MMA or 1-naphthylamine to form polymers with different properties.
