3-Carbazol-9-yl-propionic acid is a crystalline solid that has an optical purity of >99% and the ability to be used for light sensing. 3-Carbazol-9-yl-propionic acid is a metastable form of the active compound, which has been shown to have antibacterial properties. The use of this compound in membranes can lead to a reduction in bacterial growth and an increase in sensor sensitivity. This antimicrobial agent also inhibits the production of microbial biofilms on surfaces by binding to bacterial cells and inhibiting their growth. 3-Carbazol-9-yl-propionic acid is resistant against solvents such as alcohols, ethers, chloroform, acetone, and ethylene glycol. It also shows resistance against heterocycles such as pyridine and quinoline.
