Description

3-(4-Carboxyphenyl)-1,1,3-trimethylindane-5-carboxylic acid (TCI) is a carboxylic acid that can be used as an intermediate for the preparation of esters and polycarboxylic acids. It is a product of the condensation reaction between benzene and dicarboxylic acids in the presence of triamines or polyamines. TCI reacts with alcohols to produce esters by forming an ether bond. The carboxyl group in TCI reacts with hydrogen to form carboxylates. Polyoxyethylene groups are added to TCI to form polycarboxylic acids such as trimellitic acid.
