2-(Cyclohexylamino)ethanol is a colorless liquid with a strong, ammonia-like odor. It can be used as an antifreeze and solvent in paints, varnishes, lacquers, and other coatings. 2-(Cyclohexylamino)ethanol has been shown to form a ternary complex with the phosphite and sodium hydroxide solution in aqueous solution at pH 8. The ternary complex is stable up to pH 10. The imine formed from the reaction of 2-(cyclohexylamino)ethanol with diethanolamine forms an amide when heated for 45 minutes at 100°C. Titration calorimetry experiments show that water vapor plays a role in the reaction of 2-(cyclohexylamino)ethanol with diethanolamine, but the mechanism is not yet known.
