4-Chlorophthalazin-1(2H)-one is an organic compound that is a derivative of phthalazine. It has a hydrazone group, which can be reduced to the corresponding hydroxylamine. 4-Chlorophthalazin-1(2H)-one crystallizes in the form of white needles that melt at 138 °C and decompose at 183 °C. The melting point of this compound can be raised by heating it with other substances such as pyridine or dimethylformamide. 4-Chlorophthalazin-1(2H)-one can be used in voltammetry as a reference electrode and also as an intermediate in the synthesis of analogs of pyridazine. This chemical has been shown to react with aldehydes to create unsymmetrical carbonyl compounds, which are useful for synthesizing drugs such as antibiotics and anticancer agents.
