3-Chloro-2,3-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)acrylaldehyde (3CBA) is a molecule with growth factor β that can be used to stimulate the growth of cells in culture. 3CBA has been shown to induce morphogenetic protein activity and inhibit cancerous cell growth in vitro. It also induces patterning of cells, leading to normalization of differentiation and proliferation. 3CBA has been shown to block the activity of β-catenin and may have the ability to reduce the risk for aneurysms by inhibiting bone morphogenetic protein activity. 3CBA also has potential as a treatment for osteoporosis due to its ability to stimulate bone formation.
