Description

Convallatoxin is a plant-derived toxin that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the activity of the p-glycoprotein (Pgp) transporter. Convallatoxin inhibits the Pgp transporter by binding to its hydrophobic pocket, thereby preventing substrate transport across the membrane. Convallatoxin may be useful in treating infectious diseases, such as bowel disease, because it binds to the papillary muscle and prevents bacterial translocation. This compound has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases.
