Description :
3-Chloro-2-methylphenol is a chlorinated phenolic compound that is used as an intermediate in the production of other compounds. It is prepared by the reaction of sodium carbonate with hydrochloric acid. 3-Chloro-2-methylphenol can be recycled, which decreases its environmental impact. This product is also used as a raw material for the production of amide and diethanolamine. 3-Chloro-2-methylphenol has been shown to have programmed cell death in cultured cells and can be used as a cancer chemotherapeutic agent. The cells are first incubated in this chemical before being subjected to regression, where they are treated with sodium carbonate and hydrochloric acid to remove 3-chloro-2-methylphenol from the cells.
