Description :
1-Chloro-6,7-dimethoxyisoquinoline is an isoquinoline alkaloid that is synthetically produced. It can be used as a precursor in the synthesis of bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloids. Structural studies on 1-chloro-6,7-dimethoxyisoquinoline have been conducted using colchicine and protoberberines. These studies have shown that 1-chloro-6,7-dimethoxyisoquinoline is structurally related to protopine and picrate. The biosynthesis of isoquinoline alkaloids has been accomplished by feeding rhoeadines to calf thymus DNA and monitoring the incorporation of radioactive precursors into the DNA.
